The results are eagerly anticipated in the wake of a typically strong financial showing by Google last week and a tabled offer from Microsoft to take over the California internet icon. Analysts are poised on Wall Street for the published figures as rumours abound the Sunnyvale headquartered Yahoo! could post its best showing in more than three years. The average earnings estimate is of 9 cents per share.

A positive report would help to further distance the threat of a Microsoft takeover, while a poor one could provide the rival search engine anxious to shore up its pay per click and search market share, a new inroad.
