Microsoft Next Up

In a rapid fire succession of financial reports, Microsoft will become the third and final big-name search engine to unveil its figures with a fiscal third-quarter report due on Thursday along with revenue projections for the coming year. The fiscal results are likely to show gains in pay per click advertising revenue and plans to increase search marketing share by the end of 2008. Read More

Microsoft’s projections for the coming economic year are of particular interest – analysts expect conservative profit estimates based on an economic downturn that some fear could drive down technology spend.

As the software company’s bid for Yahoo! demonstrated, Microsoft are keen to develop their pay per click revenues and secure a larger chunk of the search market. Despite this, they have claimed they will not up their offer for the rival search engine. It is unlikely Thursday’s report will cover the negotiations between the two.

Recent funds have also been diverted into extending its search marketing offerings with several innovations on the pay per click platform such as advanced behavioural targeting functionality.
